New England (+6) at Denver — 3:00PM CBS (55.5+/-)
This game might as well be the Super Bowl in terms of coverage. Brady vs. Manning should be all it’s talked up to be, even though Brady’s main weapon (Gronkowski) still remains out for the year. The oddsmakers are certainly expecting a high-scoring affair, but the cold weather at Mile High Stadium could have other plans. Both of these quarterbacks are legends, but they’re also both over 35, and the weather in Denver is nothing to warm up to in January. Expect this to come down to whichever defense can get the stops. Brady and Belichick have only been underdogs a handful of times in their careers, don’t look for them to take that lightly. Jim Nantz and Phil Simms will be covering this one for CBS on Dish Network channels coast-to-coast on Sunday.
San Francisco (+3) at Seattle — 6:30PM FOX (39+/-)
The first game has the headliners, but if anything this NFC West match-up is the most intriguing. Both of these teams are relatively healthy and sport some of the most dynamic and up-and-coming quarterbacks in all of football. Kaepernick shredded Carolina’s #1 defense last week, and San Francisco is suddenly the hottest team in football. An over/under of 39 points is really low, so Vegas is expecting Pete Carroll to play Russell Wilson relatively conservative. The storyline in this game might actually be the head coaches who are known to say what’s on their mind. Both Carroll and Harbaugh battled in the PAC-12 when they coached USC and Stanford. In light of such a low scoring expectation, it could be calls from the sidelines that determine this one. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have this one for FOX on Sunday night.
