Agents of SHIELD, September 23rd – Agents of SHIELD had a rocky start before hitting a creative stride during the final six episodes of its first season, when the series really began to address the fallout from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. With Marvel Studio’s film success continuing unabated, Agents of SHIELD (along with a new show, Agent Carter, premiering in January) will undoubtedly be setting the stage for the studio’s next blockbuster, Avengers: Age of Ultron — and that’s definitely worth sticking around for. The much anticipated SEC Network has launched to over 60 million subscribers, and kicked off this week with another much anticipated event: the top 25 match up between Texas A&M and the South Carolina Gamecocks. ESPN and the fledgling network couldn’t have asked for a better debut in terms of office, as over 70 points and 1000 yards of total offense were put up in front of a huge audience (numbers to be released later this week). The communications giant AT&T has agreed in principle to terms with the federal government on a $48.5 Billion dollar purchase of DirecTV. According to the NY Post, agreeing means that AT&T has complied with merger requests from the Department of Justice, and worked that plan out over the last two quarters. Read more

As Sprint’s failed attempt to acquire T-Mobile failed — and resulted in strengthening T-Mobile as a Sprint competitor no less — there has been fierce fighting over who might acquire or even merge with the broadband spectrum-rich company.
T-Mobile now has its focus squarely on overtaking Sprint and becoming the third-largest wireless telecommunications carrier in the United States. Read more

Widely promoted as the first of its kind by the San Francisco franchise, the team broke out its highly anticipated wireless service this weekend against the Broncos — rumored to support the entire 68,000+ stadium for any and all devices. While other stadiums have provided wireless internet to thousands of fans, none have claimed to be able to do all simultaneously, and many thought it might be impossible without some sort of paid service eventually. It’s difficult to measure exactly how the AT&T/DirecTV merger has been affected by the Comcast/TWC dealings this past spring and summer. On one hand, you might expect the fanfare surrounding the Comcast deal to spark more interest in the idea of corporate merger and their affects on the public, but on the other, such a big merger can also distract from a second, and only slightly smaller one, like AT&T’s.
