From a Business Wire press release, Dish Network and Southwest Airlines announced this past week that they’re extending their “TV Flies Free” promotion through the end of 2014.
DISH Network has promised to provide 20 live TV channels and 75 onDemand shows for all Southwest flights which have wifi connectivity. Users will be able to watch the media streamed to their iOS, Android or connected device. And of course, all shows and usage will be free.
As part of the extension, DISH will continue offering new customers who sign up for the Hopper and a qualified programming package, 12,500 points in the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards® program and the choice of a free iPad Mini.
Using the service is as simple as logging onto the Southwest flight wifi and opening a web browser — users will automatically be directed to a media portal.
Most of the technical engine is provided by Global Eagle Entertainment Inc. — the only full service platform that offers content and connectivity for the airline industry.
